The White House decision to pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement came as a big disappointment to many of us.
Now more than ever it is important for citizens and businesses to take steps towards becoming green and eco-friendly. I’m not talking about those companies and the current administration. Their reasons for pulling out was greed, arrogance, and lack of knowledge. None of which are good qualities. My focus here is not their ill-advised and ultimate downfall, only time will tell that story.
This article is meant to inspire you and others here in America to continue to move forward with a clean, sustainable environment.
What the climate agreement does is put a system in place by which countries can set goals or regulations towards reducing carbon emissions and increase funding for continued reduction. And entirely voluntary. The agreement was monumental considering it was the first time the world agreed on something. And that something was to protect the planet.
The fact is companies have been taking these steps well before the agreement and have already seen positive results. I mean how do you think we got to this agreement anyway. Do you believe it was a bunch of liberal tree hugging scientist with money? No these people came with results and hard, proven facts and evidence.
And I don’t mean fake numbers because numbers don’t lie…#taxreturns
“This one trend, climate change, affects all trends.”
– U.S. President Barack Obama,
The silver lining is that sustainable growth and business, eco-friendly and environmentally sound business decisions are already making a positive impact.
The mayor of Pittsburgh responded to the pull out by saying. “Pittsburg is the poster child of why the Paris Agreement is good economics for the United States.” The current administration seems to lack a knowledge of history on this issue. The initiatives put in place in Paris are already working. The city already saw improvement in job growth, innovation, and their overall economy has improved.
His statements are true. Sustainability Business and Government practices have shown a reduction of expenses, expanded job growth and creation. New revenue streams and improved relationship with customers. We’ve seen a significant decrease in risk and the ability to adjust to unexpected circumstances. And we all have those.
The case for this could not be any stronger. For a business man, you would think a solid plan like this would be a no-brainer. Any failing business can see the writing on the wall about the benefits being eco-friendly can bring.
Decided to do nothing is just not smart business, let alone politics.
Gone are the days of big manufacturing, mass productions and linear economics. And the only thing about your business that kept you up at night was how to sell more products. Today, your employees should be a concern, building relationships with customers should be a concern, reducing your energy cost should be a concern. Protecting the environment should be a concern. Today business is about all of us, family, friends, the world and we should own that.
